THEOLOGY OF THE MARRIAGE COVENANT
(ONE SEMESTER COURSE)
Course Offered Virtually
MONDAYS, 6:00 - 7:00 PM (EST)
Dr. Byron Harden, Instructor
Description
Our culture has lost the historic and biblical understanding of Covenant Relationships. Instead, we try to transform marriage into whatever the latest cultural viewpoint says it should be. However, the Covenant of Marriage was the second gift of God to humanity, after life itself. Marriage is found throughout history, in every culture, and is largely unchanged throughout history—until lately. What about marriage has changed?
This course will explore these changes through the lens of Scripture and encourage the student to honor the underlying reality that makes the Covenant of Marriage a covenant; the practices and principles that flow from this underlying reality; that marriage is not just the tie that binds, but instead, it is a plan designed by God to build the strongest love relationship and the best working relationship.
The goal of this course is not marriage counseling, therapy or any other clinical component outside of the scope of the testimony of Scripture. This course is designed to equip and grow the students into capable learners who will not only embrace the principles of Godly marriage from a Biblical framework but also honor the methods by which these principles strengthen the goal of better homes and better societies.
